For our inaugural year, we invite visual artists to look backward in order to push art forward. We are seeking definitive, high-fidelity, and emotionally resonant visual interpretations of West African history, mythology, and folklore.
This is Modern Mythmaking—rendering legendary figures with reverence and technical mastery.
Deities such as Sango, Amadioha, Mawu-Lisa; rulers like Queen Idia, Yaa Asantewaa, Mansa Musa, Queen Amina; and legendary stories such as the Dahomey Amazons and Anansi.
Hyper-realism and surrealism encouraged. Subjects must be portrayed with dignity, power, and cultural accuracy.
Accepted media include digital art, painting, sculpture, mixed media, metalworks, weaving, and more. Digital submissions must be high-resolution JPEG/PNG at 300 DPI. Traditional works should be scanned or professionally photographed. Include a 150-word artist statement.
